Just want to warn everybody about the Leapers UTG model 4/15 Free Float tube shown here: UTC model 4/15
This seems like a good deal for a free float tube, easy installation, slim profile, very durable, and doesn't look too shabby. Well there is a very bad problem with this tube. Although it attaches directly to the barrel nut (included), it cannot use any type of low profile gas blocks under it and requires that the gas block be pressed against the end with an end cap. The interior dimensions are exactly 1.3' and I was unable to find any suitable gas blocks that would be able to clear 1.3' and have enough clearance to allow the barrel to free float without the gas block hitting the handguard (+/-.01'). Also, the attachment end for the barrel nut is <1' so a gas block would have to be delicately installed while the rail is attached if you can somehow figure a way to install a small enough block to make it a true free float. The best I can figure, if you mill the gas tube groove in the top to a wider distance, use a cut down and pinned m4 block, you might be able to acheiver the function, however the time involved would be rediculously long for what you are paying for. If you are looking for a cheap alternative, while using standard low profile gas blocks, I would recommend the Omega Manufacturing Free float tube. It is very easy to install, you can get end caps designed for it, slides over almost all low profile gas blocks, and has enough clearance to sustain a true free float.
Just my opinion as I wasted $50 on this, and ended up only spending an extra $8 for one that actually has the functionality and aesthetics I wanted. I'll probably end up cutting this one down to a 7' standard and using it in my next build for a 22lr or something so I don't feel I wasted the $. Like I said, it looks nice but lacks the functionality.

Replace the factory junk!
I hated the awful swat team wannabe collapsible stock that came on my DPMS Oracle. These factory stocks are typical for most AR15s from all makers and they are horrible for accurate shooting. The UTG A2 stock cures that shortcoming and at a reasonable price compared to Magpul offerings. It's stable....gone are the wiggles and non existent cheek weld associated with collapsible stocks. It is heavier but not cumbersome. Installation is easy and straight forward which is good because for whatever reason, UTG does not include any instructions whatsoever. It doesn't matter what kind of AR ph.D you might have, not everybody knows everything associated with assembling the components of the AR platform and a basic guide to assembly should be included. My AR was bought for coyote hunting and the fixed A2 stock is a definite improvement for that purpose. Magpul makes a fixed stock that I prefer but not at 3X the cost. I didn't find any imperfections in the example I bought...some folks complain about a mold seam...the majority of plastic products are injection molded and seam lines are a part of that process...but I didn't find anything objectionable on my stock. It is black and matches my other hardware perfectly. I don't like the fixed sling loop at the stock toe. I would prefer a simple stud or push button type attachment point. I guess if you're into GI Joe and want a 1967 look to your AR then the sling loop is perfect because it's a direct holdover from that era 50 years ago. As for the buffer spring BOING sound, I did apply a little grease to mine during assembly ...sparingly....and there is nonoise. I'm quite happy with this stock, the only negatives being the fixed sling loop and lack of assembly instructions.Read full review
